MAKO Surgical, Dr. Buechel and Event Horizon Film, Inc.
As most MAKO Surgical investors and MAKOplasty patients likely already know, “Dr. Frederick F. Buechel, Jr. MD, Event Horizon Film, Inc, & MAKO Surgical Corp. (collectively with its clients, employees, agents, legal representatives, successors and assigns, “MAKO”) are committed to protecting the privacy of your health information.” In fact, they are so committed to your privacy that they want to film your operation but will only do so if you sign this document.
Dr. Frederick F. Buechel, Jr. MD, Event Horizon Film, Inc, and MAKO would like you to sign the release because they are dedicated to providing the newest healthcare technology and quality patient care and “In order to educate the public and medical field about the work [they] do and about health issues generally … [they] may prepare, or assist newspaper, magazine, television, internet or radio reporters in preparing, articles or broadcast or web stories regarding specific individual patients, their illness, and the treatment they have received.”
If you sign the release, you can show “your common interest in and dedication to these same goals”. However, if what you tell them in your interview needs buffing they will edit “the wording of statements and interviews” you give “in any manner an Authorized Party deems advisable, so long as the meaning is not substantially changed.”

Patients may also be interested in a difficult to find document on MAKO’s website titled MAKO Surgical Corp. “Customer” Commercial Arrangements. There’s no menu link – just a so-called “href” link (conveniently not included in MAKO’s sitemap, which would direct search engines to index it). This document includes a roster of physicians with whom MAKO has “HPP arrangements”. An HPP is a healthcare professional partner. These HPPs have “ a written commercial arrangement” with MAKO Surgical Corp. under which they may potentially benefit economically. Potentially?
On a separate topic, Dr. Velyvis, who has successfully landed at the San Francisco Surgery Center, is among those on the roster as of May 1, 2012.
